This Simple Health Tip Not Only Helps You Lose Weight, but Also Puts You On a Path To Better Health!

If you are looking for a quick, FREE, and effective way to lose weight, there is a simple thing that you can start doing today. This easy tip is pretty much accessible to everyone, won’t cost you anything extra, and is easy to start doing right away. Additionally, not only will it help you lose weight, it will do a lot of other things to improve your overall health. No, this isn’t a magic pill, a Hollywood detox, or a crazy home workout. It is much easier than all of those. In fact, it is so easy, you’ll probably roll your eyes when you see it…

Replace Your Drinks with Water

Yep, that’s it. Drink WATER instead. So simple, but for many people, this will actually be a HUGE difference in their health! Think about what you drink throughout the day…coffee, soda, Starbucks frappa-somethings, more soda, beer, wine, maybe an energy drink…Now think about which of those drinks have calories in them-probably all of them.

If you want an easy way to lose some weight then eliminating empty “drink” calories, and replacing them with water, will not only help you drop the “lbs”, it will help you feel your best! Understanding why cutting out calories will help you lose weight starts with understanding how many calories you need. According to the FDA, the average 36-40 year old male with a moderate daily activity level needs about 2,600 calories. For a woman, it’s about 2,000. For the complete FDA chart, CLICK HERE.

AVERAGE DAILY CALORIE NEEDS:

Men-2,600

Women-2,000

Keep that in mind as we look at how many calories are in our favorite drinks.

How Many Calories Are You Drinking?

We often don’t think about our drinks as being part of our daily caloric intake. Turns out that drinking calories is one of the biggest sources of “unnecessary” or “surprise” calories. Right up there with snacks. Here are some of our favorite drinks and their calories.

12 oz. soda-124-189 calories

12 oz. bottled sweet tea-129-143 calories

8 oz. orange juice-157-168 calories

That may not seem so bad, but let’s get real here. A “can” of soda is rarely the serving size we end up with, especially if we are at a restaurant or getting fast food. On top of that, we typically have more than one of these drinks throughout the day. Believe us when we say, it can add up fast!

Here are a few more “real life” examples:

  • 16 oz. Coke: 187 calories
  • 21 oz. Coke: 260 calories
  • 30 oz. Coke: 315 calories

Here are some Starbucks favorites:

  • Grande (16 oz.) Vanilla Latte with whole milk: 290 calories
  • Grande (16 oz.) Iced White Chocolate Mocha with Non Fat Milk: 310 calories
  • Grande (16 oz.) Pumpkin Spice Latte with Skim Milk: 380 calories

Now consider your total calories for the day, let’s call it 2,300 in the middle. One large Coke from McDonald’s takes away about 15% of your available calories FOR THE DAY. You mix in a couple more calorie laced beverages throughout your day, and all of a sudden it should start making sense to you why you are carrying a few extra pounds.

You should also understand that these drinks, particularly sodas, have zero nutritional value for you. Additionally, they are absolutely full of sugar. For example, that large Coke has 76 grams of sugar in it! To put that in perspective, that ONE drink has the same amount of sugar as eating FIVE glazed donuts! A Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Latte? 50 grams of sugar. These drinks are just basically big sugar and calorie bombs! LEARN MORE HERE

How Does Water Help?

If you are real with yourself and actually take a look at what you are drinking, you will likely discover that you are getting much more calories and sugars from drinks than what you would have guessed. Losing weight is hard. However, the easiest thing that you can do is replace your calorie drinks with pure, clean water.

This saves most people at least about 50o calories a day, if not more. It is quite simply, the easiest change you can make to save yourself some calories and sugar. Additionally, drinking water has many other health benefits. Besides helping you lose weight by being calorie free, water is essential to our bodies. Don’t take our word for it though. According to Harvard Medical, here are some of the many benefits of drinking water:

  • It helps deliver nutrients and oxygen to our cells

  • Regulates blood pressure

  • Flushes bacteria from our bodies

  • Cushions joints

  • Regulates body temperature

Can’t I Just Drink Diet Soda Instead?

While diet soda may have zero calories, that does not necessarily make it a healthy drink. The research is still undecided about the health risks of artificial sweeteners used in diet soda. Additionally, many diet sodas have added sodium, dyes, acids, and preservatives. Is it a better choice than the sugars and calories in a regular soda? Probably. However, you should not consider it an alternative to drinking water.

I Don’t Like the Taste of Water

This is very common, but there are some easy solutions for you. First off, consider your tap water. Tap water often has residual sanitizers in it (like chlorine) or can have strange odors and flavors. This is easily fixed by using a simple and affordable carbon filter for your water. Most fridge water dispensers use a carbon filter already, so make sure your filter doesn’t need to be changed and try and drink your water from there.

You can also add ice to your water. Other great recommendations are to add a squeeze of lemon or lime to your water. Unsweet iced tea is also calorie free, and tea leaves do have some health benefits. This is a great choice to add once or twice in your day as a water alternative that won’t set you back in calories or sugar.

We know that we are a plumbing company, so why are we writing about health benefits of water? Well, if you follow along with our Best Plumber Tips, you will see that we really care about our community. Your tap water isn’t really as safe, pure, and clean as it can be. So while it is super important that we all try to drink more water (and less sugary drinks, like soda), it is also important that the water we drink is the best it can be.
